WHAT HAPPENED IN OCTOBER

MGCC Midland Centre 75th Anniversary Luncheon October 25th

A really good event. About 150 attended, including 7 from Kilsby.

The Midland Centre had put a lot of work into this including a display of historic material and a CD of 1950s Centre events which had been copied from cine. This is quite interesting with a lot of old cars and early Midland centre personalities (some of which …cars and people…are still around). We have ordered a copy for Kilsby and this will available to members on loan.

Kilsby were presented with the California Shield for holding the Chairmans Picnic.

This will be on display tonight.

National Restoration Show: Stoneleigh October 26

A better than usual event covering 3 and a bit halls.

We will be canvassing for numbers tonight.

WHAT HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER

T Register Weekend Ipswich

Terry reported a good if intermittently wet weekend

Turweston Airfield Vintage Aircraft/Classic cars  21 Sept

A very pleasant day reported by those who went.

I was stuck at home trying to fix a leaking oil filter….

MGOC Isle of Wight Weekend 26-29 Sept

An excellent weekend for the 9 Kilsby cars that attended of the 50 or so total.

Good hotel, good company, and weather was unbelievably very warm and sunny all 4 days.

An interesting organised run around the island on Saturday, & plenty to do on the Sunday.

Highly recommended.

Chairmans Picnic

Nice to see a good write up (in effect Tony’s note to all participants) in the Midland Centre notes in Safety Fast! this month.

Appeal for Storage Space

The club now owns a lot of display paraphenalia…gazebo, display boards, poles, bunting, banners, pegs, posts, post bases etc etc. At the moment David Croskell and Rick Willoughby are storing it, but it takes up a lot of space (I know that a sizeable part of my garage attic is taken up with it). Any volunteers to store the following would be appreciated:

The new gazebo (2 bags…one for the poles, one for the sheeting)

20 posts (electric fence posts)

WHAT HAPPENED IN AUGUST

 Althorp evening re- run

A dry run this time, with even a little sunshine. This event was much enjoyed, with 15 participating cars. See our website for the excellent photo of the cars in front of Althorp House. Thanks once again to Leonie and Steve Tromans for making this run possible.

Chairmans Picnic

A great success!!!!

There is little I can add to Tony’s comprehensive E-mail that he put out on the Sunday evening to all participants (copy overleaf). Although we had some rain around lunchtime/early afternoon, it could have been much worse. We had 84 cars attending, everything went to plan, and our guests seem to have enjoyed the event.

We have received several E mails and verbal appreciations.

A splendid team effort by all of Kilsby and a big thank you to all who assisted on the day.

Special thanks to Tony who was the mainstay of our organisation and handled all negotiations with the Midland Centre, Upton House, and of course all of our guests.

Although not intended, the event will have made a small profit, mainly due to some of the pre-booked and paid entrants being unable to attend. In numerical terms, these were offset by roughly the same number of people who arrived un-booked on the day.

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER  EVENTS

MGCC Midland Centre 75th Anniversary Luncheon October 25th

At the National Motorcycle Museum. Tickets £18.00.

See Rick or Terry for order form

Some of us are planning on going to represent Kilsby

Probably best to get all bookings done this week.

Dave Cotgrave is unfortunately away on business in India, but I am hoping to collect the new batch of 12 bears from Lynda and to have them here tonight.

Excellent value at £10.00 each.

Please see Ed who will happily take your money .

WHAT HAPPENED IN JULY

5/6th July Hollowell Steam Rally

An excellent turn out by Kilsby, 12 cars Saturday and 13 Sunday, and probably the best display there. Unfortunately the weekend was marred by poor weather which reduced public attendance by at least 30%.

10th July Annual Beachampton BBQ and informal concours

Relocated at the last minute to Little Horwood due to temporary closure of the Bell at Beachampton. 5 cars convoyed from the A5 layby, led on an excellent route by David and Stella Shadlock. We met 3 more Kilsby couples there who had travelled direct. Unfortunately also marred by the weather…wet on the way down, dry but cool and overcast until about 9.15, then a heavy downpour that terminated the prizegiving and wound up the evening.

Congratulations to Allan (Concours) Bell who won the award for best post war MG for the second time. Thanks to David Storer for his usual warm welcome.

12/13th July Kilsby Village Fete

A good and varied turn out for our local event.

Congratulations to Terry who attracted 14 cars on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.

Cars ranged from 14/40, TA (x2), TC, TD, TF (x3), MGA (x2), MGA FHC(x2), Midget, MGB(x2), MGBGT, MGF(x2), MGTF, MGZT, Riley Swift, Dodge Phoenix, Corvette, Commer Imp van, Volvo Amazon, Lotus Cortina, Morris Series E, Healey 3000 & Jaguar Mk2.

Saturday weather was indifferent, Sunday was very warm & we hosted the excellent William Parker School jazz band in our tent.  The event raised about £2600 for St Faiths church, including about £40.00 from our collection bucket. We received a letter of thanks from the organising committee, and we were pictured in an article in one of the Rugby papers.

The public vote for “the car you would most like to take home” was a tie (I think) between Barbara Ford’s TC and Brian and Rosie’s TA.

25/26/27th July Silverstone Classic Festival

Those who went will confirm it was well worth a visit. Very warm weather, good organisation,

wonderful cars and all day racing. Not too crowded either.

AUGUST  EVENTS

See Dave Cotgrave.

WHAT HAPPENED IN JUNE

13/15 June MGCC Silverstone International

Generally fine weather, and a good event. Terry and I helped out for a couple of hours on the Midland Centre stand (new for this year). This may become a regular feature. If it does, Kilsby have offered to help with the manning rota.

29 June Princethorpe College Motoring Festival

A pleasant day although brought to a slightly premature conclusion by a squall of rain.

We had about 10 cars there…a good proportion of the 108 total.

Final roundup on arrangements tonight. Usual Friday night set-up (with fish and chips!!)

WHAT HAPPENED IN MAY

18 May. Rose of the Shires run

A very good run was reported by Terry.

24 May Spridget 50, Gaydon

An excellent day with well over 1000 Spridgets of all types.

Lucky with the weather…the only dry day with torrential rain on the Friday before and most of the following days.

24-26 May Northants Vintage & Classic Car Show at Earls Barton Showground

Badly affected by the weather.

Attendance of both cars and public was very low on the (dry) Saturday, and must have been even worse on the other days. Only a few Kilsby people were planning to attend anyway.

JUNE/JULY EVENTS

13/15 June MGCC Silverstone International

Some new features and organisation this year, including transport around the site by classic buses. Midland Centre BBQ on Friday night….you will need advance ticket.

WHAT HAPPENED IN APRIL

FBHVC St George’s Day Run Sunday April 20th :Foxton Locks

An excellent run, (Thanks to Terry), well supported by about 18 cars despite the weather, which started off a bit drizzly and although cold, did not actually rain.

Foxton Locks proved to be an interesting venue and well worth a visit.

We only saw about 5 other old vehicles en route: a Triumph Spitfire, an Alfa, two steamrollers and a tractor!!.

Thanks to all who supported this important national event

Evening Run Tuesday April 29th

Despite the appalling weather (wet at the start and got wetter) this run was a great success and much enjoyed by the hardy souls who attended.

Steve and Leonie had organised a very good route with a privileged route through the grounds of Althorp house with a photo opportunity at the house.

Many people have requested that we do the run again in better weather, and we will see if we can arrange something later in the year.

The post event gathering/drying out at the Red Lion was particularly convivial.

MAY EVENTS

18th May. Rose of the Shires run

….. if you haven’t already entered, its too late now!!!!

24th May Spridget 50, Gaydon

£ 12 per car although pre-entry is cheaper

You could probably still get an entry if you haven’t already.

A number of Kilsby types will be going

CHAIRMANS PICNIC 31st August

Preparations are going well, under the chairmanship of Tony Lake

Before too long we will be asking for volunteers to help with setup, marshaling, parking and post event clear-up etc.

APRIL 2008 NEWSLETTER

Lighter nights, improving weather... .the MG season gets underway..........

Three events already completed:

MGCC Donington (Pete Bramble)...a good 3rd in his main race I believe

T series Rebuild Seminar (Brian, Terry & others)

Edelsborough PCT (Steve Heath, Keith & Claire Oakes)......Claire 2nd, Keith 3rd, Steve DNP but an encouraging performance despite some carb. flooding problems.

NEW GAZEBO

Our protracted search for a suitable gazebo has now ended with the purchase of a Wickes 6m x 3m gazebo for £79.99. We decided not to pursue our original intention to go for a 9 x 3 or 9 x 4 item due to cost, portability, storage and possible excessive size for some applications. The packed 6 x 3 is just small enough to be MG transportable and was felt to be best value. We hope to use it at Hollowell, the Kilsby Fete and the Chairmans picnic.

CHAIRMANS PICNIC

The Advisory committee will hold a further meeting tonight to continue planning this event.

Everything going well so far.
