MGCC Midlands Centre Chairmans Picnic
31st August 2008
at
Upton House

As you know 2008 is the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Midland Centre MGCC.
Among an array of anniversary events John Fry has asked the Kilsby Natter to organise the Chairman's Picnic on Sunday 31st August.
We are delighted to do so and will hold it in style at Upton House just off the A422, 7 miles NW of Banbury in Warwickshire,
Upton House is very welcoming, they host several vintage and classic car events each year and want us to park on the lawns either side of the main drive and in front of the house, it should be quite a sight.
Afraid it is MG's only in the grounds, but all MG's of whatever age are very welcome .
Upton House is a late seventeenth century house, built of mellow local stone, the interior was remodelled in Art Deco style in the late 1920’s by Walter Samuel, 2nd Viscount Bearsted, chairman of Shell from 1921 to 1946.
He left his collections, the house and the magnificent gardens to the National Trust in 1948
Located on the top floor is a fascinating collection of Shell Oil advertising posters and other memorabilia from the early decades of motoring.
There are displays of paintings by artists such as Stubbs, Hogarth, Brueghel, Fouquet, Bosch, El Greco and Canaletto. A collection of china and porcelain with many rare Chelsea figures and a number of excellent Sevres pieces. A set of Brussels tapestries depicting the 'The Hunts of Maximilian' and much fine furniture including a fine mahogany suite.
To make this a day to remember it would be good to have a turn out from all the natters in the Midland Centre so perhaps you could think about organising a run from your particular venue.
An entry form is available and more information will appear in Safety Fast, and on this site, but please put 31st August in your diary.
